Ice Fishing is Good!

Tuesday, 29 December, 2009

As I drove along the Hebgen North Shore today, there were 7 spots with several ice fishermen enjoying the bright blue sky, sunshine…and fishing fun.  They’ve been coming out pretty regularly already this winter, which means that they are catching pretty regular!

Tell us about your ice fishing by adding a comment.  Remember Kirkwood guests, posts of dated photos of your catches between New Year’s and Easter 2010 enters you in our Winter 2010 Fishing Contest.  The guest with pictures of the most fish caught out of Hebgen Lake during this timeframe wins $100 cash!

How’s Fishing?

Thursday, 17 September, 2009

Several fishermen who are staying here right now have reported they’ve gotten steady “hook-ups” in the morning and later afternoon, fishing from the boat.  Looks like both rainbows and browns are biting…the bigger fish are coming up now that it has cooled down more.

Just heard they saw the gulpers on the lake yesterday….

Lake is High and Beautiful!

One of the most common calls I get is to ask, “What’s the lake level?”  This year, the answer has been GREAT!  With the cool summer, they haven’t had to release too much water into the Madison River to protect the fish there–so Hebgen Lake has stayed close to full pool all summer.  Right now, the lake is only 1.6 feet down from full pool.  (To check the daily lake level, go to this site  http://www.usbr.gov/gp-bin/arcweb_hebr.pl )

With such good lake water and the fantastic warm, sunny September weather we’re having, boating is as good as it can be!  (You can check the weather in this area by clicking on the weather button on our homepage.)

The work to repair the dam intake tower is proceeding well.  This is a 3-year project, with this being the end of the first year.  PPL Montana has a good site with interesting pictures for those of you who want to keep up-to-date on this project.  http://www.pplmontana.com/front+articles/072909+Hebgen+Work+Update.htm
